Pretty, Polished, Perfect.: White Day, White Night, White Out.

White Day, White Night, White Out.

When I first read the "homework assignment" for this week, I groaned inwardly.  I whined to the computer screen, "But I haven't got my sunkissed glow yyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttttttt."  With that preface, I suggest you grab some shades before viewing my pictures.  They may be cornea searing ;)

I recently read an article by a fellow blogger, in which she expressed her feelings about reading fashion blogs.  In one comment, a blogger specifically mentioned the "Bloggers Do It Better" series, claiming that such initiatives were the cause of blogs without original content; there were also other comments (I feel rather cynical and unfriendly) criticizing this thing called "community."  I'm new to blogging, and this is actually the first challenge I have participated in.  I took that comment about this as a challenge (another commenter mentioned changing our outlook or how we percieve things.)  I thought, I want to participate in this.  Not because I can't come up with my own original content.  Not because I need more traffic, more followers. In fact, I have to admit to that ever-so-slight twinge of envy that I hadn't thought of it first, lol!  Feeling challenged  by this article and some of its commenters, I thought about what I could do with this post to make it dinstinctive, to make it my own.  Yes, I'm wearing white (and hoping that my skin tone doesn't count, lol!)  When I thought of this outfit, there were so many choices between shoes, handbags, belts.....the options were limitless!  I narrowed it down to two, meant to take this outfit from day to evening with the simple change of shoes and handbag (and maybe a bit more eye makeup for added drama.)  The first two pictures above are what I might wear to the store, running errands, etc.  Down below (I know, the obviously bright and sunny afternoon pictures may confuse you as these are the "evening" outfits, but hey, my husband's not a real photographer, and I'm not a genious with photoshop, so......):

{pants, top, cardi, belt JCrew shoes Candies/Daisy Fuentes hanbag Gianni Bernini/F21}

Wow.  I didn't realize my entire outfit was from JCrew until I just listed it!  Is that good or bad?

One other complaint point that was made in that article - no one wants to see 20 pictures of me in one post.  If you don't want to see any more pictures, I suggest you stop here.  The photos below are just two that I actually really liked, but don't really feel are helpful in highlighting my outfit/style.

I liked this one - it seemed to capture the sense of daytime casual.  If I were to photoship this, I would remove the fan blades seemingly coming out of my head (though I could claim it was a really cool hat inspired by the Royal Wedding last week!)  I should also have remembered to close the armoire :)
I loved the way the clutch was reflected off my countertops!  I took this shot and for one tiny moment, I knew this must be what it feels like when real photographers get a really cool shot!

Haha, the comment about the royal hat = priceless. I'm checking out all BDIB posts to see what others created. I don't agree with these series being without content. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion though. As a newbie myself, I try to give each blog(ger) my respect. Who am I to judge if someone's blog has no content or not. Does that mean I like all blogs? Of course not, when you go to an ice cream parlor you don't order all the flavours right? You pick what you like and leave the rest for others to enjoy.
Enfin, I digress , to get back to your outfit, it looks casual chic. I definitely like the flats look.

I really love the blouse, so cute :) I think things like Bloggers Do It Better actually encourage original content, everyone has a different interpretation of the challenge and it is a great way to find new blogs to read.

I find the bloggers do it better "assignments" as a way to be creative and find new combinations for my clothes!
Getting to know new bloggers doesn't hurt either :)
I love your outfit very much and I am fair skinned too, so I was, like you, reluctant to the all white theme :P
I love your blouse very much! The belt is "built in"?
The clutch is so cute, and the picture with the refelction is awesome!

I'll tell you what I think about that article...LAME!! There's no right or wrong way to blog - that's the beauty of it. How is an outfit challenge not original? We all have our own spin. Even if we all owned the same shirt we'd still wear it differently...
I love the tones & textures of this ensemble! And pictures help tell us a story of who you are! I say, keep 'em coming!

I so agree with your post. I love the sense of community these challenges give. Some people just want to be negative, and I applaud you for staying positive. It's great that you posted several pictures of yourself, I enjoyed seeing your different outfits. Also, I adore the handbag in the first photos. Thanks for sharing!

wow this is such a pretty outfit!! I love it. Especially the shirt! It takes a while to get a regular amount of bloggers to view and comment on your blog. I have come to notice though that people who have over a thousand people viewing their blog, a lot of the times don't have relationships or full comments from people. Just "that's pretty" types of comments.

I love your humour about the fan blades.. lol
You look great anyway and love the way that these photos capture your sleek style with the theme.

Keep at it girl, you are a natural. Don't know if you are good at photoshop, but PAINT would easily take care of those fan blades. Love that shot though, and I am TOTALLY stealing the pose! CUTE!
Would love it, if you would stop by and see how a 45+ year old handles “White Out”—you might get a good chuckle anyway! See you there! http://stillblondeafteralltheseyears.com/2011/05/white-out-change-it-up-outfits-modeled-by-women-over-45/

I think I read the article you're talking about, or maybe just a similar one. My feeling is that these are our blogs, and we can do what we want with them. I mean, no one's forcing us to read them! If you don't like something just move on. If you like it, stick around and leave a comment. I like posting a bunch of photos because I like seeing a bunch of photos on other sites. What can I say, I like looking at clothes!

Your outfit is really cute. I love all-white outfits, but have a hard time making them work for me. You've given me some ideas!

Love,
Heather

Loved your post! I agree, these challenges aren't lack of original content, but more about inspiration and show how YOU style it. Love your shirt!

I think a challenge can be used both to challenge the way you dress and to gain some extra exposure for your site. It's like 2x the growth! I don't think there is anything wrong with either of those. Some people get really up in arms about the ways bloggers try and increase their exposure, but lets be honest - doesn't everyone of us blog because we want SOMEONE to read it?

I love your all-white outfit and the lilac skinny belt is a great touch!

SO I adore your outfit! About the challenge and this so called comment you found... I totally disagree...to an extent. I think that this blogging community has been so supportive and amazing and I am so glad I got involved with it. I think the Bloggers DO It Better challenges is FUN and encourages us to find and introduce ourselves to other bloggers in the community! Yes, it adds traffic but that is just a bonus :)

First off, I have to say I loved your outfit you came up with for this BDIB assignment!

Secondly, I know the post you are talking about, and in fact wrote a couple of rebuttals to the commenter in question. I just want to say it warms my heart to read what you wrote, and to read what commenters also said. I completely agree, 100%. That's why I created BDIB--for MORE original content! I can't stand the recycling of content such as regurgitated editorials posted under the guise of "inspiration" (although I myself have been guilty of this a number of times in the past). So, thank you. Your support means a lot!

xoxo

I love clothes, I love to shop! I love hearing from others who love clothes and like to shop! I did the challenge for fun, plain and simple. It was almost like doing a scavenger hunt and then we get to compare results!
I look forward to the next challenge, see you there!
