Did you get the email this morning? Old Navy has their Rock Star Jeans & Cords on sale for $19. My thighs weren't built for skinny jeans or corduroy, but these ones actually fit (as for that flint-like spontaneous combustion of rubbing corduroy - that remains to be seen, lol!) They come in denim and corduroy, and lots of color - the debate over colored bottoms being in still is open for debate. What do you think? In or out?
I love this colorblock dress from eShakti. It's perfect for pairing with a jacket in fall and winter, and perfect alone during the spring and summer months (I'm a huge fan of versatility!) I'm also a big fan of eShakti. I love that I can customize the sleeves and hem lengths. I have no waist (and don't even get me started on my lack of a chest) and so usually dresses don't ever fit me quite right, but with eShakti's customization, I can get a perfectly tailored dress. It's also nice that they have a step-by-step guide on how to take your correct measurements!

Fall is in the air (even though today's high is in the upper 90s - Fahrenheit for any of the metric readers.) So yes, I am trying to squeeze in the last of my summer colors, including yellow.
About that rule. The rule about white? When I was young girl, there were rules. And you did not break them. There were also monstrous shoulder pads and pleated pants a-plenty. Ah memories.
Regardless of whether the monarchs of fashion have done away with the rule, it seems that as the seasons start to change (however subtly,) my choices of daily outfits naturally gravitate towards fall colors. It also helps that magazines, blogs and retail stores are fully advertising the fall collections. I've already pulled my boyfriend jeans out of their summer resting place. My cardigans and jackets are front and center in my closet now. And I can't remember for the life of me where I put those darn white pants!
p.s. Kansas City Fashion Week starts exactly one week from today. There is too much information for me to give you in one post, let alone the p.s., so go visit their site for information and to buy. those. tickets. You wont' be disappointed, trust me!
p.p.s. And the winners of the JUNIEblake giveaway are......... Shelley Z and Sabrina B. Congratulations!
It's time for another Triple P Giveaway. This week it's been pointed out on every blog (even the home decor blogs!) that Old Navy has an inexpensive version (Rip-off? Knock-off? Replica? what is the politically correct term for this?) of this Alice + Olivia sweater:
Old Navy's less expensive (and non-sequin) version:
Jacket: Hydraulic (similar here)
Top: George (yep, Wal-mart, similar here, here, and here)
Necklace: Forever21 (similar here, here or here)
Bracelets: Derng (similar here), Target, Thrifted (similar here), Banana Republic Factory
Skirt: LC by Lauren Conrad (similar here) *This outfit was inspired by Bailey, the only young person I know who has a solid handle on her own personal style.......I was a hot mess at her age!
Congratulations to Megan and the Madewell staff on a successful event!
From top left: Taylor, Laura, Krystal, Katie, Maygan, Emily and Brigid.
I really do enjoy shopping with the Madewell team - they are so sweet and kind.
Several of the local bloggers styled their own mannequins - and I loved every second of it (that's my mannequin in the blue pants - @_TripleP!) Shop the outft: Printed Boyshirt, Overdot Tee, Typeset Trousers.
I interned as a visual merchandiser in High School (with the best mentor - Marilyn - whom I will never forget!) and I loved it. Why did I stop? I was tempted with a department manager position that sucked the love right out of retail!
All photos courtesy of Nicole at Nicole Clifford Photography. You can see more photos of the event here (don't forget, if you "like" what you see......)
That I will lose, or forget, the moments and memories that have meant the most to me (it's why I love photographs, especially when they capture the memory with its thousand words.)
If
you could relive any day of your life, what would it be and why?
I could
be cliché and say the day(s) my children were born, or the day I was married,
but that isn’t true. I don’t want to
live in the past, I live for the future (I know that is also cliché, but it’s
more true to who I am than pretending I would relive any day in the past.)
If
you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
21? Just kidding.
Haha!
I don’t know what age, maybe 29?
Old enough to still have found my own style (and I’d like to think a bit
of wisdom), but young enough to have not gotten the wrinkles yet?
Which
celebrity do you get mistaken for?
I have only been told I look like an actress once (and I'm okay with that.) It was a girl at the Y (my gym, where I always, undoubtedly, look my worst), she said I look like the girl from Lost. I still don't know which girl she was referring to (I never watched it,) but she said it what the actress with the curly hair. I looked this girl in the eye and asked, "So what you are really saying is that my fro looks like I've been stranded on a strange island without any hair products, right?" We both laughed.
What songs are included on the soundtrack of your life?
Oh gosh, I don’t know. I
love music, but I don’t think there is a song that is about me or defines my
life. Some favorites are (and this may
shock you) F*^$ You, by Lily Allen – the edited version. It’s the perfect song for when I am just so
angry (which is rare, and usually after listening to the song I’m
over it. Plus, I hide this song from my sons......) I also love Rapper’s Delight
by the SugarHill Gang. I think because the
guys are like the OG’s or rap (or maybe because it’s a little bit disco, a
little bit hip-hop and mostly rap – I’m not kidding, watch this YouTube video.) They weren’t afraid to be
different. And come on, they were kind of awesome. Right?
That's it for today, I hope you learned something new.....and that you still like me, lol!
Online. To avoid the crowds (especially at stores like Forever21....those fitting room lines make me seriously contemplate trying on clothes right where I stand. Really, I've got nothing good to hide.)
Anyway, here are a few things I'm drooling mulling over (I hate Forever21's return policies by the way; that and their extremely cheap clothing - but that still doesn't stop me!)
This month's EBEW theme is Nautical. The rebel in me had to stand out, so in lieu of all the stripes, red, whites, blues and otherwise-over-the-top-preppy clothing in my closet, I chose this:
and stood on the dock of a lake - you know, to make the "nautical" theme seem more relevant.
That's right. I'm wearing a Hawaiian-print shirt. Now I need a boat and a fruity drink in the shape of a pineapple (or coconut.) And a pair of Sperry's.
In other news, if I happened to fall overboard, I should be easy to spot, right? Haha.
1. Yes, The Cure is one of my all-time favorite bands (and my best friend can't believe I still have their music on my iPod.)
2. I'm an old sentimental fool. Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys has died of cancer. I love the Beastie Boys. I'm sad to think that the group won't be the same anymore. Why did I think they would just be around forever? There is no other band (even though Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Bon Jovi and Gene Simmons have certainly tried) that I could envision rocking out on stage at the age of 90, walkers in hand, and still be cool!
3. Did you know that Halls is having their Spring Sale? It's been extended until Sunday, May 6th AND (a little birdie told me) Nanette Lepore, Tibi, Yoana Baraschi and Milly are 40% off (regular price merchandise only.) Go, invest in classic and quality at 40% off. I might even see you there!
4. My son has Strep Throat. I feel helpless and horrible. Meds will help my son feel better, but an Oscar de la Renta gown might make me feel better. Or that pair of Louboutins.
5. Mother's day is coming up and I'm dreaming of Tiffany blue (wink, wink.)
6. Wow. The humidity has arrived, and that means my hair has grown at least three times in volume since March.
6. Here's an outfit to round out my thoughts (and how I wish it were a poufy taffeta Oscar de la Renta gown!)
2 perfectly ripe California Avocados, pitted, peeled and sliced into wedges
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees (Fahrenheit.)
Dredge the avocado wedges in the flour (coat them real well,) dredge in beaten egg (coat them real well, again,) and then dredge them in the bread crumbs (you got the real well part, right?) Lay on a baking sheet (I rubbed a little bit of olive oil on my pan.) Sprinkle a little bit of salt over the wedges, and then lightly sprinkle olive oil over them (I placed my finger over the opening to "sprinkle" because I'm fancy like that. Haha.) Bake for about 15-20 minutes (Mine were almost burnt at 18 minutes.) Take them out of the oven. Eat them. I forgot to take pictures.
Even my children ate them. That is a miracle.
Have you ever watched the Food Network (or Cooking Channel) and they have those awesome videos of the food bubbling up in the hot oven? No?
My kitchen is one of the most well-used areas of our home. I spend a lot of time cooking, cleaning, baking, cleaning, hanging out, cleaning, playing games, cleaning, entertaining and more cleaning in my kitchen.
Top, Old Navy. Pants, JCrew. Necklace, Forever21. Bracelets, thrifted (similar here) and Target.
I read an article the other day about bloggers appearing to be perfect (sorry, I can't find it or I would link to it - it was a good article!) I know, I know. I even use the word in the title of my blog. I know I am not perfect. The title of my blog is about what I wish I was, what I am always seeking and what I love; it is my search for all things pretty, polished, and otherwise perfect. I've got a number of photographs that are far from pretty, my dishwasher could use a good polishing and look! My kitchen isn't perfect:
Did I mention I spend a lot of time in the kitchen.......cleaning?
